In the world of online advertising, CPM impression rates (cost per mille or cost per thousand) are what most publishers and advertisers agree upon. Of course for the Advertisers, getting the best lowest CPM rate is ideal - but all this depends on the volume and quality of traffic a Publisher’s site is able to generate on a daily basis.
Again, measuring the the quality of traffic is important - and top 3 authority on measuring and ranking a site’s reach and traffic are Alexa, Google Page Rank and Technorati.
I have been looking around to check what would be the ideal CPM rate - for a site with no ranking, and for sites ranked under 100K by Alexa, or sites with Google Page Rank and for sites with Technorati rank as well.
And these are what I found:
For new sites - and sited not ranked: Usually it’s under a dollar per CPM, in some cases may reach up to USD4.00 but Advertisers do not gamble that much.
For newly ranked sites (close to 100K in Alexa ranking, Google rank of up to 2):USD1.20 to USD2.50 on the average and may go up to USD8.00.
For mid-ranked sites (under 100K in Alexa ranking, Google rank of 3 to 6): USD4.00 to USD8.00 on the average and may reach USD10.00 in some cases.
For high volume sites (usually ranked high in Alexa, with Google rank of 4 up): The unconfirmed ’standard’ CPM rate plays around USD10.00 and may reach to USD20.00 or more in some cases. That’s 0.01 to 0.02 cents paid to the Publishers per 1000 ad impressions. (edit: per ad impression, not per 1000 ad impression)
However, there has not been any published authority on CPM rates - though I’m still new to this, somebody may wish to share with me if there’ already one out there.
CPM rates may vary depending on a site’s reach, visitors demographics, media and technology used and several other factors.
