A gift of lovin’ from Google
After 15 weeks of blogging here at Bloggista.com, or exactly 4 months on 10-May, 2008, I had my share of frustrations, humiliations, disappointments and excitement and surprises at the same time. Probably these are really what inspired me to keep on blogging, and learning some more each day.
Disappointments include being unable to break into the top 100K Alexa Ranking, however, unique hits have been steady for a several weeks already. As of today, my Alexa Rank is at 195,973. And this means I have to work very hard to get on the top 100K for the next 4 weeks.
But today, I was surprised to see that Google gifted me a PR3 rank. It was almost 4pm that I checked on my blog today, approving some comments in moderation queue, especially the one from Ambo, one of those Pinoy bloggers I admired. But it was only after visiting Bendzg’s blog that I realized something is going on with Google Page Ranks. I checked on PageRank.net to verify if my new PR is accurate, and indeed I got a PR3! My friend, Bendz was so disappointed with his PR that he wanted to quit blogging on his new blog site and go back to his old blog site. Not a good idea Bendz, better go on blogging in there.
The PR3 was indeed a surprise, although I know it could have been PR4 based on some PR prediction tools. Maybe those prediction tools are not as accurate or maybe Google did deducted some PR points on my blog – that will remain a mystery. Perhaps the SEO experts out there could give better explanations, as I am still ignorant about PR and SEO stuff.
With this gift from Google from NOTHING to PR3, I resolved to blog even more better contents, and minimize if not eliminate things that doesn’t make Google happy. Would this mean I will quit from doing paid posts? Certainly not, however, I should make responsible paid posts and as much as possible, only get opportunities that do no require “do follow” links. I know this is not a big deal, however, getting ranked is probably almost every blogger’s dream. My PR3, as per my expectations, is not bad. My internal pages were also rewarded with good page ranks, mostly PR2.
Perhaps Google understand why smalltime bloggers, like me, go on blogging online, and part of it is to earn some honest money from sponsors and paid contents. And gifting smalltime bloggers with a good Page Rank is one way of saying that Google also needs smalltime bloggers as much as we need Google.
