Graham Langdon is Selling Entrecard

entrecard for sale 250x119 Graham Langdon is Selling EntrecardSo Graham Langdon is selling Entrecard. He made his announcement in his Entrecard blog, and the starting bid was put at US$100,000.00 at the Sitepoint Marketplace. Whether Langdon is serious or not, it seems his decision to sell the blog network site with over 80 Million impressions per month, and over 100,000 blogs exchanging ads using 125×125 banner widget is something that he doesn’t want to do if only circumstances would allow.

According to Langdon, his desire to keep the site up and running would cost him a lot and giving it to a company with enough resources and money is just the right thing to do to continue serving the thousands of blogs in its network. But with the failed negotiations with Venture Capitalists lately left him wrecked, and he’s still not back to his feet, and he’s come into a stalemate and could not keep up with Entrecard’s growth.

Graham Langdon isn’t new to selling a site which started to be some brilliant idea and became successful. He sold milliondollarwiki.com for some nice amount of money (not sure if he made about US$50,000.00) from that – and it is supposed to stay alive for 15 years but now it’s dead. Some people are thinking that Langdon may have come to realize the slow demise of Entrecard’s popularity and is seeing the opportune time to sell it – while it still bites. Many issues and controversies were hurled against Entrecard recently, but its loyal members (including me) stick to it and even wrote lots of articles about the benefits of using Entrecard and how to improve the EC dropping community among others.

I have not been active with Entrecard dropping and advertising lately. I have not been to the Forums site. I used to be a regular EC dropper and ‘forumer’. But due to tight and busy skeds, I have skipped dropping save for some sites that have dropped on my EC widgets, and of course my friends’ sites as well.

Graham claims Entrecard is currently enjoying 80 million impressions, 85,000 uniques, 3.25 Million page views, and US$2,000.00 revenue per month. Figures that each interested buyer has to verify. Do you think Entrecard would be a good site for anyone with the money to buy?

What is Entrecard?

Entrecard is blog network site that thrives on advertising. You put a widget on your site, and you earn Entrecard Credit for each Entrecard Member who visits your blog and make an EC drop on your 125×125 banner widget. You also earn one Entrecard Credit when you visit other EC members’ sites and drop on their EC widgets. These EC credits can be accumulated to buy advertising slots on other blogs’ EC widget. For example, currently, the cost to advertise on Bloggista.com is 128 EC per day. My EC widget is placed at the top-left sidebar. You can either make a drop, click on the advertised 125×125 banner to visit the advertised blog (then make another EC drop), and/or make an advertising booking on this blog, which is currently 6 days – meaning, when you advertise today, your 125×125 banner will displayed on my EC widget  6 days from now.

You can make up to 300 drops per blog, and you can have several blogs linked to several EC accounts. The Entrecard Credits can also be used to purchase items at the Entrecard marketplace, or can be used as a reward for comments and prize for contests. EC credits can also be sold, ranging from 3USD to 6USD per 1000 EC credits. In essence, Entrecard is a micro-economy, where members can trade – buy, sell, exchange, gift entrecard credits to one another.

But one thing that made Entrecard attractive to blogs, especially to new bloggers – is its ability to bring in traffic to a blog. By purchasing EC advertising slots on various blogs, and/or by making drops to several blogs hoping that those whom you dropped EC’s will reciprocate and drop on your EC widget as well, thus, giving you traffics at the same time. While many have criticized that the traffic generated are superficial and lead to high-bounce rates, still many bloggers find Entrecard a helpful tool to get traffic and to get noticed in blogosphere.

Bloggista.com is in fact, thankful to Entrecard and its community – because that’s where I found all my blog friends – from the Philippines and all over the world.

  1. it’s one of those making money online options. Grow a site and then sell it. I’m thankful for entrecard! But then, it could possibly grow even bigger if sold to someone who can handle the community very well. From the looks of it, Graham failed in that.

  2. The vision was wrong. EC isn’t a “blogging community”, it is an “advertising” community (or social network). Power dropping, non-blog sites, and other technological advances (scripts, even) could have HELPED Entrecard. Adding rules and deleting blogs was a bad move. In EC’s favor, forums were never (or barely) censored! So EC users might step in to help. A simple solution would be to solicit volunteers from the community (even paying them EC points): A “think tank”. Or: A more open feedback system (get feedback BEFORE making changes). All a part of COMMUNITY planning. In short: Change the VISION.

  3. Wow I actually like that kid.
Well it’s sad news and the right person
could make it even better but some lame
wannabe hip company will buy it and 6 months
later it will be toast.I’m a big fan and love the
whole system.Well there’s alot of bad news breaking right now guess this is just another on the list.
Knowing Graham he probably needs some dough to get his next idea off the ground I wouldn’t count him out just yet.

I have to look at other traffic options then, if Entrecard will be sold to others (and possibly fail). Sadly, I’m still learning how to get traffic through other means.

At first I thought Entrecard was a way to simply put the traffic stats up. Eventually some droppers started to notice and read my blog, and I got a small set of loyal readers. So it is true that Entrecard is a way to promote one’s blog.

I think Graham should stick to managing and growing Entrecard instead of selling it.

  7. That is one sad news story for the weekend B. But I have to say If anyone would purchase Entrecard it would and should be one of the leading search engines preferably either, yahoo or msn cause if google was to buy this site because of the traffic potential and it’s promotional capacity it would further increase their market hold. Not that I dont favor google but it does seem like this dot com giant is starting to monopolize its hold on the internet industry :)

  9. anti-EC

The people running Entrecard are immature and stupid cry-to-mama assholes who rule the EC and its highly biased forum with arrogance. If they don’t like what you post there, they can delete it anytime they want.

These people don’t deseve such attention and their immaturity and flair for being ‘famous’ are too abvious I bet my balls they’re just stirring the blogosphere with this stupid news but at the end of the day – they will announce they’re not selling. Stupid a-holes…

  10. Hey folks – been out lately, thanks for all the comments. I see each one has his different view – and I respect that.

Well probably Graham has flip-flopped on this, as TJ over at Techjaws.com have written on his post. I’m afraid it will shoot back at a person’s credibility when he says one thing but does another thing. My grandma used to tell me that a person who does that is called a ‘an apprentice of Deception.’ Nice show.

shouldn’t it be time already that we buy it? got some entrecard points unused, probably we could pool our entrecard credits to buy-off the site. Hehehe.

  12. well if graham doesn’t sell, it would make him look ridiculous as he already announced it. but if he does sell, it would subject him to insults and such since he would be marked as a person who just wants to make money quick. either way he will be in the negative side.

  17. Good for you Gem. My other blogs meet all the requirements but they just deleted those anyway. These guys have a knack of trigger-happy account deletion and expect members to plea for “mercy”. They didnt even bothered to check the site and verify whether it meet their requirements. They have listed the rules and requirements on their site – but seemed ignorant with their own rules.
