horse blogging 250x235 Easy Blogging and Making Money with AutobloggingMight not be a conventional way to blog, but Autoblogging is certainly the most convenient way to get contents from different sources and automatically post those articles into your blog. Talk about easy and lazy blogging. You can virtually grab any content – text articles, music, videos, youtube videos from any RSS/Atom source and auto post it into your blog. It’s possible to create a dozen or even a hundred of new posts per day with autoblogging.

Autoblogging is simply getting contents from someone else’s articles – taking advantage of individual RSS/Atom Feeds or aggregate feeds called OPML. The setup is simple – you install a plugin, select your desired content Categories, or type the RSS/Atom URL Feeds you want to fetch contents. It can even autodiscover a site’s RSS feeds if its template has appropriate meta tags for RSS feeds autodiscovery.

Wordpress Plugins/Add-ons for Autoblogging

There are quite a number of Wordpress plugins and add-ons for autoblogging, some are free while others can be purchased for a single site or multisite use. I am featuring only the following as I have experimented on them – no, not on this blog. For full functionality and features description, follow the links (Note: Some links are actually affiliate links):

WP-O-Matic - free Autoblogging wordpress plugin with the ability to fetch RSS/Atom contents from any site with RSS/Atom feed. It also allows auto rewriting of certain words, create campaigns based on categories, cache images, words relinking – useful if you want to automatically link certain words or phrases to your other posts/articles or even other blogs.

SyndicateKahuna - a free wordpress add-on (not installed in plugins folder but at the root of your wordpress blog). After you register, you can add your blogs where you want to auto-populate contents. You then select topics/articles Categories and even specify keywords if you want a keyword specific content.

Autoblogged - a commercial and more powerful autoblogging plugin which allows fetching many types of contents, even Youtube videos. If you are looking for a user friendly autoblogging tool, more flexible and with lots of options, this is the one for you for a small investment.

Is Autoblogging Ethical?

It depends on anyone’s perspective. But one thing for sure, some people (including yours truly) will consider you an article thief if I see one of my posts in your blog without my permission. I have seen many of Bloggista.com’s articles in many other sites – some in summarized form with a link back to this blog, but others publish the entire article without even an acknowledgment of the original source. They even put their own names as the author.

However, there are also sites that allow fetching of articles using Autoblogging tools for a fee. Try Googling it in your browser.

How can one earn money with Autoblogging?

The most popular way to make money with autoblogging is putting Google Adsense ads. But you will not be earning a good amount of money if you will just solely rely on those auto-contents of your blog, as sites using autoblogging are generally ranked lower in SERP’s. You have to do some SEO work, as well as posting some original article if you want to rank higher in Search engines.

Aside from Google Adsense, you can also make money with autoblogging tools by creating online e-commerce stores using your Affiliate account with several popular Online marketplaces and affiliate programs. This will be discussed in my next Article about Autoblogging.

  1. Another cool thing about autoblogging is that with a popular topic you can create a huge web site in no time at all. Then you can make money selling links at places like http://www.tnx.net.

Yes John. I have seen so many blogger blogs scraping my contents. Some using the excerpts, some in full with linkback, and most doesn’t even mention the original source.

If I see a trackback or a linkback from them, I just delete them.

Kidding aside, this is quite okay to some but I just don’t feel it eh. I love to write kasi eh. This makes me proud kahit na ba 100 words lang, at least gawa ko tapos original. ^_^

  5. So you actually cracked the video thing… it’s good for automattic youtube video posting but doesn’t come cheap.

There are scrappers and there are the “syndicated content” people who attribute articles to the right author. Giving the author proper recognition would be something I’d do if ever I get into syndicated feeds.

But I guess there’s a difference between your article getting syndicated or scraped. In essence they’re the same – as both used your RSS feed to grab your content. Unfortunately, I deleted the 12 other trackbacks on this post alone that displayed the full content of this article.

But im sure you do see those as well Metz. :-)

Nope, I have not done any autoblogging on videos yet. I have experimented one with Syndicatekahuna, but most of the posts were even worse than mine – meaning grammar wise and content organization. But at least SyndicateKahuna articles are submitted by members who are willing to share their articles.

I tried the RSS feeds and yes, it did fetched the contents of the other sites – but just found it unacceptable to my principles.

There are those who get your contents by getting the ‘excerpts’ of your post if you have them, now I understand the value of putting post excerpts.

  6. Is Autoblogging Ethical? Here are a few other questions for you:
    Is content-scraping ethical?
Is making a profit from other people’s work without their consent ethical?
How do spam blogs generate content? Don’t they feed off other blogs?

I apoligize for my violent reaction, but this reeks of spam-blogs and content-scrapers.

    Luis Cruz´s last blog post..APPT Manila 2008

    Reply

    bloggista Replies:

Exactly. As in my previous comments, I don’t see any value of doing this. These autoblogged contents don’t even get ranked in SERP’s. Definitely content-scraping is un-ethical, my understanding of content-scraping is posting the whole article on another site with or without reference to the original article.

But not so sure it would apply for excerpts or summary contents – then putting a link back to the full article on the original source. Again, this is something that should be discussed and if by all means it’s unacceptable, there should also be counter-measures to be taken to protect people from getting “exploited”.

The question is – is there a TOOL available to disallow these kind of content fetching, scraping, thievery.

  8. I second the motion with Luis. I disagree about earning money using others content. I think it’s really unethical. If I read useful forum posts that do not include author’s name, I request the poster to include it. That’ why I always check the About Me page of a blog before admiring him.

I enjoy writing my own posts even if I spend long hours of doing so. It’s better to write posts using your heart.

  9. i guess some try autoblogging (as in the excerpts only) for the sole purpose of filling their blogs daily for a temporary period of time. I am not sure of the real purpose though, whether it is for money or just for google indexing.

sometimes, we as bloggers get flattered with the linkbacks. But I often delete them when i see them in the moderation queue. I don’t know if the link was good or bad for my blog. I just delete them anyway,

  12. With a clear indication that the post was not originally written by the author but by someone else (with the proper credits), I don’t think it is that bad. I mean, that is if only an excerpt is taken from a post and to read the entire story would direct to the original source.

But otherwise, it is unethical me thinks.

  20. Autoblogging seems intriguing but I am still unsure of where the content comes from, I think you mentioned other blogs getting this blogs content? Not sure what’s up with that.

I have nothing against people setting up “faux-blogs” as they could be called but I can’t help but wonder how this would work out in real life, for example: My blog is my voice/opinion, but I take my content from another persons mouth ( this happens naturally ) but the real problem is adding to social networks with non-original content. Anyone can see how this would’t end up well.

That’s my 2cents on this matter. :)

I know what you mean, right now I am only managing one blog, so content is easy for it to be original. However I think I will try it out because when I think about it. Auto-blogging does give some more creative power to the owner, because you can focus on the creation instead of the content of the site and rewrite 60-75% of the content to get the ideas flowing no matter what niche you are blogging about.

I guess I should do some research before I ask, but where does the content come from? Is it from an article database or from other live blogs? I assume the articles are all given freely with consent?

    Thanks in advance :)

    Metz - Empty Streets Replies:

Hmm you have amazingly valid points there Wynter Jones didnt think of that angle – :) but yes research is always necessary as we dont want to spread false info of which could be our worst nightmare or who knows will bring us a heck load of fun – oh well blogging is definitely like any business – it is a gamble – But am definitely not folding and am sure neither are you ;)

    bloggista Replies:

Hi Wynter Jones – just as Metz was saying – those are valid points. Yes, there are article sites where one can freely submit contents to be syndicated in other blogs (it also builds backlinks and traffic to some extent), but the problem is actually how you will be getting traffic from those contents which are not yours. If you rely on social network sites to get traffic – it might not be a good option.

Autoblogging may be good to some extent, as you pointed out – but there’s no substitute to writing your own original content and do some SEo work to generate traffic from the search engines.

Personally, I will not be into getting content from someone else’s RSS feed, but I may do autoblogging using article sites – like SyndicateKahuna. Or, it will be the other way around, if you really write great articles (like Metz and Snow), you can submit some articles to these sites so that when other people syndicate your article, you get the backlinks and traffic as well.
