ox bloggistacom 250x223 2009 Year of the Earth Ox: Test of Wills

This is part 1 of a series of 3 articles about the Year of the Earth Ox, and what’s in store for us in the year 2009.

By nature, I am not a superstitious person. I don’t believe in astrology, nor follow what others call feng shui practices. But I do not condemn these as well. I consider these as rich sources of information - or what I preferably call sources for self motivation and personal guidance.

Needless to say, I do not equate horoscopes as superstitions, for me it’s just simply statements of common sense, and practicality. In fact, I can write your horoscope for today:

Spend wisely today, do not overspend. Else, you’ll forever be in debt.

Tomorrow, you will travel out of your house, thus you need to be extra careful to avoid accidents.

See? Kidding aside, there’s nothing wrong “reading” horoscopes, or feng shui, or remembering your Chinese calendar year. I was born in the Year of the Ox, and 2009 is considered to be in the Chinese calendar as the Year of the Earth Ox. Naturally, the curiosity in me led me to google some information about what the Feng Shui experts think of the Year of the Earth Ox.

What does the year of the Earth Ox means?

Good thing about Google is that, aside from letting you make money with them, it gives you just anything you want to know - thus their slogan, “Search and you shall find“. There’s a tremendous wealth of information available, but there is this one particular article I find very informative - 2009 Earth Ox in a Fire Year. Again, there is nothing wrong learning what other people think - it’s a good addition for everyone’s thirst for more knowledge.

2009 is a Year of Change

Where does that came from? Barak Obama’s “Change We Need” is significant since 2009 (or year 4707 in Chinese Calendar) is seen to be a year for change. With the global financial crisis that is affecting not just the United States but the World - people will clamor for change, naturally, and efforts will be done to effect the necessary changes in our lives. But not easy change though, as the Ox in Chinese astrology is stubborn, and is known to resist change. According to the article by Diana Garber, the “Ox years typically represent hard work. Think of the animal in its natural surroundings. It works alone or with one other and stays true to its course. The ox is conservative, focused, and serious. Their mottos is “I will,” which literally may result in a test of wills.”

The stubborn ox challenges the Feng Shui fire year (normally brings out a more social, gregarious, and ambitious side). On the surface, Feng Shui earth and fire elements compliment each other; however, earth reduces fire (think of your Scouting days - dirt over the fire to put it out). In addition, the ox’s true nature is earth so this year is a double-earth over fire year. Double earth will adamantly resist. Earth, in itself, can resist change but come around after there’s time to process. The ox year will command a methodical approach and quantifiable results.

Health in 2009: Year of the Earth Ox

This one doesn’t need a Feng Shui expert nor an astrology master to know what you should do to improve your health and be protected from sickness, and reducing risks of cancer and other dreaded diseases. Again, common sense dictates that one should eat more healthier foods, and keep a balanced diet, regular exercise, and avoid if not drink alcohol in moderation.

If you want to live longer, then respect your body - and get added protection by taking anti-oxidants like vitamins and natural health food supplements. Don’t drink and drive. Quit smoking. If you want to avoid aids and STD’s, practice safe sex, or just don’t do it with someone you don’t know. Don’t skip breakfast. Don’t blog until morning - get enough sleep.

Feng shui experts are also saying that “Earth also represents the abdomen, stomach, immune system, spleen, joints, hands, and shoulders. Take care of your stomach, and stretch your body to help with joint and shoulder pain.” Hmmm, not bad if you heed this anyway.
