2009 is a year of hardwork and test of wills - as represented by the nature of the Earth Ox. And only those who persevere will succeed. I can tell you, there is nothing wrong in believing this statement, as common sense dictates without hardwork and will to succeed, one can’t find glory in every thing that he does. Going back to what the article 2009 Earth Ox in a Fire Year says, in 2009:

“Earth” businesses will do fairly well. They include real estate, recruiting, the food industry, farming, household products, and practical clothing. The energy implies business consolidation, which is normally met with layoffs. Earth years can also produce an earnest search for spirit and more focus on family. It’s fun to validate this theory by looking at history.” In Chinese Lunar Calendar, a complete cycle takes 60 years and is made up of five cycles of 12 years each. Thus the events that happened 60 years ago (1949) may be interesting to note.

History: Events that happened in 1949

  • Mao Tse Tung’s army marches into Nanking;
  • A bill is introduced to relocate African-Americans “equitably” throughout the country;
  • Truman institutes policy of aid to underdeveloped countries;
  • Flight records are made;
  • NATO begins;
  • Republic of Ireland is created;
  • Siam becomes Thailand;
  • Chinese Communists take Shanghai;
  • Orwell’s 1984 is published;
  • US Supreme Court rules that evidence gathered through illegal search and seizure may still be used in prosecution;
  • Apartheid begins by law in South Africa;
  • Willie Mayes debuts;
  • Vatican excommunicates Communists;
  • Seven UFOs in three pairs with one trailing are tracked for ten minutes;
  • Ingrid Bergman divorces and quits Hollywood;
  • Truman announces Russia has The Bomb;
  • Mao Tse Tung becomes Chairman of China; and Chiang Kai-shek’s government flees to Taiwan.
  • All the King’s Men won best picture.

From the list of business types above that will “do well” in 2009, I see “Recruiting” is failry related to the business I have just launched late this year, which is Consulting and Outsourcing - basically recruiting people and training them for project assignments to clients locally and overseas.

But then again - success or failure depends largely on how you planned and execute things, as well as economic and business scenarios among other related factors, and not due to the movement of the moon and the stars.

Definitely, year 2009 is a challenging year for businesses and world economies. Therefore it is also common sense to be wise when spending money - and purchase only things you truly need, and postpone those things you want at a latter time, when things are getting better. For optimists, trying times signal a cycle of prosperity afterwards. Most, if not all Business experts and analysts will agree to this.

Thus, for those who have the extra money to spare, the first few months of 2009 is a good time to buy into stocks in my opinion - as they are at record low prices in recent years. Wall Street gurus are saying that the “harder the economy fall, the higher it bounces back.” Whether this optimism holds true - business must go on, and people should put back their confidence in the system to roll it again towards growth and prosperity.
