Passive Income Spotlight: The Health and Wellness Billion Dollar Business
The Health and Wellness Industry has offered many passive income enthusiasts a great way to earn and be financially independent. The marriage of the good old “direct selling” and “network marketing” strategies with internet and e-commerce have given tremendous revenue potential to those who seek and embrace its opportunities.
The idea of succeeding in the Wellness business (Health, Nutritionals) is based on the fact that it has become a booming industry, with over USD200 billion in sales potential, and is expected to reach USD1 Trillion in the next 2 years.
Is there a Market for Health and Wellness Products?
The so called “Baby Boomers“, or those who were born between 1946 and 1964 are the number one market for the Health and Nutritional products. These people have the money to spend, and the necessity to stay healthy, fit and live longer.
Even the younger generation are now more health conscious these days, and their demand will even increase as they reach 45 or 50 years old.
How one can cash in on the billion dollar Wellness business?
It is all about bringing the Health and Wellness products to the consumers. How? You may consider one or a combination of these proven ways to earn from the Wellness business:
Wholesale business – if you have the capital and space to hold inventory, move products and employ people then starting your own Wellness wholesale or distribution company will give you huge potential to earn more. However, this one needs good business experience, requires more time to manage the business and needs lots of resources to maintain.
Direct Selling – this allows anyone to sell Health and Nutritional products without the need to hold huge inventory. Most of the stocks are provided on a per sale basis, thus this require only small capitalization. Revenue is earned through commissions – and the Wellness Industry is one of the very few industries that actually give out attractive commissions.
Network Marketing – the concept of network marketing is simple with Health and Nutritional products. Instead of selling the products yourself to as many people to earn, you can instead “re-direct” your Health and Nutrition consumption by buying it from your own affiliated Health and Nutrition company. Say, if your family’s regular monthly budget for Health and Nutrition products (vitamins, supplements, weight management products, anti-aging, etc.) is Php7,000.00 (about USD150), its already enough for you to be an active network marketer in most network marketing programs.
To earn, you just need to invite other people to do the same. You can even pool 2 or 3 families together so that the minimum monthly purchase requirement can be met, and just share on any commissions, matching bonuses and other incentives that you earn.
Internet/E-commerce – putting up a website to sell Health and Wellness products is also proven to be a great way to earn from the Wellness industry. One can sign-up for affiliate programs (like Pepperjam, SFI Marketing) that give commissions for every sale or lead generated from your website or blog.
To start your own e-commerce site, you can either host your own website or blog by purchasing your own domain and hosting, or you can use a Free blog site service where you can create your blog for free and populate it with products to sell.
The Health and Wellness industry also provided better opportunities for home-based jobs. Either through the direct selling, network marketing or e-commerce method, people who have embraced the idea of getting into the Health and Wellness business are discovering even more reasons why working from home, and be your own boss is better than having a lifetime of being employed by somebody else.
The global financial crisis have left many with no jobs, and even more people with less or no job security at all. In the Philippines, more than 60,000 will lose their jobs in the coming months, not counting the 250,000 government employees that may lose their jobs as well.
The home-based job opportunities presented by the Health and Wellness industry is surely worth the time and effort to study and consider – to help achieve what other people call “financial independence”.

it’s a billion dollar industry. a close friend is into the wholesale business and he’s opening up some opportunities for me. it has a very big potential for Luzon.
I suck at network marketing. It’s like I’m just giving away my money on the initial investments.

There is gold in the wellness business. First, who wants to be sick? Wellness products offers health security to would be users. Better take vitamins and stay away from illness than medicine where the doctors and drug companies only make money.

That’s nice bro. Just make sure the business is something that really works. Admittedly, the old school MLM wont work anymore. So its better to get into a network business where you can take advantage of the technology and the internet.
I am also working on something that will allow me to go into MLM business – finally after years of being skeptic.

MLM and Health and Wellness products is a good combination. You can use the MLM as your training ground to sharpen your skill in sales/marketing (badly needed when you want to put up your own business) while Health and Wellness products is easy to sell to Upper and Middle Class.
Another good products that would be a click in all classes are Homemade Home and Personal Care products(i.e. Detergent powder, Fabric Softener,Dishwashing liquid)

Id go for an internet/E-commerce distribution. Then I would maintain not so much inventory, just enough for a few days delivery.
It can absolutely be passive if you hire a staff or two to make sure the business is moving compared to MLM in which you would need to continue selling yourself just to set an example to your down lines. You don’t want them to think you’re not active.
Great post by the way. The health and wellness business is very enticing.

The health supplement industry is indeed one of the few which has not been hit badly by the economic recession, so much unlike real estate for one. Many are still willing to capitalize on their health and it’s a bonus that some of these health products also offer business opportunities for their consumers.

Thank god for affiliate sites. There are so many on clickbank and if you do some research you can find ones that pay out really well. Even using Amazon to sell products is a possibility without having to stock anything in your basement or send anything to the distributor. Thanks for the facts n. on the industry.
