Bloggista Updates: 365 days of blogging and counting

spotlight bloggistacom 250x200 Bloggista Updates: 365 days of blogging and countingMy friend Metz of Empty Streets was wondering what I have been doing lately – as he noticed some weird stuffs on this blog the past few days. No, it was not about Super Bowl 2009, or Super Bowl 43 (been experimenting on these keywords in some unknown sites of mine over the past days).

You might have probably noticed it too. This blog is actually using a different version of  WordPress since the original idea was to provide a free wordpress-powered blog to anyone who wanted to have a wordpress blog for free. But when I acquired Bloggista.net, I decided to make Bloggista.com my personal blog site, and moved the free wordpress-powered blog  hosting to Bloggista.net.

Just recently, the great people over at WordPress.org came up with a 2.7 version (a few months late after the release of the 2.7 regular wordpress version). So the other day, I upgraded this site – and also installed the MobilePress plugin to make this site mobile-ready.

So if you are browsing using your phone (blackberry, iphone, any mobile phone), you will be automatically redirected to the Bloggista.com | Mobile Edition.

By the way, I made a very “serious” error during the upgrade process. I forgot to rename my index-install.php file thus for about 60 seconds, my site was vulnerable to everyone. And I was too late before I was able to rename the file. Somebody quickly “stole” the site by changing the admin email, and the guy was able to change the password.

But since I was able to “cripple” the site, the guy could not do anything much, however, I could not log in to the backend as well. I had to open myPhp Admin, looked for the admin user and manually changed the admin email. The guy changed the admin email to zozo@zozo.in, thus any attempt to change the password, WordPress sent it to this email address.

And all this happened in less than 3 minutes! My “stupidity” cost me almost a disaster, though there’s not much in value on this site except for my visitors’ precious comments.

Well after 365 days of juggling between really busy work and blogging, there’s not much accomplishment to proclaim to the world except for all the friends I “earned” from blogging. But for the next 365 days, I resolve to work harder as a blogger, despite the major challenges of allocating free time to blog, and of course “writing good contents” – a skill I simply don’t have.

Other stuffs?

A look at the new concepts over at Bloggista.org

Bloggista.org has been neglected for quite some time. Now despite my really busy sked, I am slowly upgrading it and added some new concepts to the site like:

  • Latest News and Blogosphere buzz site – you can now read some of the interesting Pinoy News (news from the Philippines) and the world over at Bloggista.org
  • Added a Free Classified Ads section – so anyone can post Free Ads in various categories like Real Estate, Products, Services, Jobs/Employment, etc.
  • I have also added a Community Blogging section called you.Blog - where anyone can contribute a story (any story, tagalog, taglish, english, bisaya). All submissions are reviewed before publication. Regular contributors will then be given Contributor access – and a revenue-sharing option will be implemented.
  • And lastly, I have opened (now in BETA) a Social Network Section called myBloggita Connect ::
    • myBloggista Connect is a Social Network Site for Pinoy (and even non-Filipinos) Bloggers and readers. It aims to connect the bloggers and the readers through a common site where they can interact, create groups, create group blogs, group forums.
    • myBloggista Connect also allows individual blogs, private pages, private forum, add friends, upload videos, share files – everything a Social Network site does.

Launch the Referral Program for the ERPBiz products and services

A few months back I announced that I will be launching a referral program for the products and services offered at ERPBiz. These Software as a Service (SaaS) ERP and CRM products can dramatically reduce the cost of implementing and maintaining business softwares to as much as 70% for SME’s and even for larger companies.

Affiliates will earn USD100 to USD500 (or even more) for every successful referral. The guidelines will be published soon, as well as the creatives (banners, landing pages, ads, etc.)

That’s all for now. I thank all of you, visitors and regular readers for making my first year of being part of the blogosphere truly exciting and a wonderful learning experience.

Adelante!

Hmmm, so this now answer my questions on your whereabouts Mr. B! Gosh, thank God you recovered it from that ‘guy’!

      Hi B and Snow,

wow hehehe so I actually caught you at a bad time there hehehe :) glad to see you back and up. I know how hackers can be such a pain in the butt – Empty Streets got hacked back then when I was quickly rising the ranks with regards to traffic amount good thing was able to catch it before anyone else caught wind of what was going on and found the widget that they used to infiltrate my site :)

It seems you have just made a very strong commitment Mr B. :) hehehe But you do write pretty interesting stuff here, and it has improved even more so as to the months that I have gotten to know you. Snow too is starting to get into a habit – blogging is definitely addictive :)

Your new add ons for the sites and services are amazing too B :) I too have a social networking site for empty streets – emptystreets.ning.com :) heheh mostly for my friends and other people interested to talk to me and people I know hehe :)

Anyways am glad that things are back to normal again B :) it is a good way to start the week. PS – let’s find that hacker and give him a good old kick in the nuts for all the trouble he has caused – hmmmm what if it was a she?? heheh Snow can handle that side I guess hehehehe :) till the nxt visit. xoxo

      • Snow on February 3, 2009 at 4:15 pm

Hey Metz – hmmm, why not? Maybe my expertise ing arnis can make this person away! hehehe… peace… :)

      • Gem on February 6, 2009 at 11:36 pm

Even blogger blogs get hacked? I’m surprised! Oh well, as you’ve mentioned they used a widget. I’m also amazed at how you really made huge boost to traffic as well.

    • bloggista on February 3, 2009 at 9:13 pm

Hey Snow and Metz, hehe, missing again for a day. Thanks a lot for being nice.

On the hacking thing, yeah, this is the reality we all face when we operate our own site. I just don’t know why some people find happiness in some other people’s misery.

The more reason that we, newbies and non-techies should learn a few basic things about security and yeah, backup.

If all things fail, then we can employ Super Snow’s powers. :-)

      • Metz - Empty Streets on February 4, 2009 at 12:49 am

        Hi Snow and B,

heeheheh that would make two of us hehehe :) I cover the front you cover the rear hehehe. :) But seriously I agree a lot of these hackers are a definite pain in the arse. :) and sometimes we have to be careful of what we put in our sites as they can use a lot of them to gain access into what we have built :) and backing up our files is a definite must :)

        • bloggista on February 4, 2009 at 1:22 am

Naku Metz, your comments go to the spam folder – LOL, will check what went wrong, but don’t worry, will make sure all your comments get posted. :-)

          • Metz - Empty Streets on February 6, 2009 at 6:50 pm

            Hi B,

hehehe yayyy all mo comments are posting properly again heheheh I have another wedding today at the peninsula but taking time out to sneak around and drop by to see how you and everyone else was doing here hehehe :) happy weekend everyone and dont worry I have already started rolling out the valentine articles so you wont have to think about where and what to do this season of hearts :) but I cant wait to see what you all have up your magic sleeves. ;)

yap! I was hopping from one blog to another just the other day and noticed the mobile version.

Looks like you were able to beat that hacker naman. That’s fast! Only 60 seconds and naiba na settings mo! :-(

    • bloggista on February 3, 2009 at 9:18 pm

I panicked for a while, good thing I already tried doing the myPHPAdmin thing before. Sometimes, being forgetful saves you some pain. LOL, I forgot my password before and my php mail didn’t work so I learned how to get into the database and recover the password.

Looks like you got your hands full. As I read on how some hacker wanted to get hold of your site, it got me to thinking…Our comments must have been pretty precious for that guy to get hold of. Hehehe.

    Great job, B!

    • bloggista on February 3, 2009 at 10:53 pm

Hahaha, thanks dude! Good to see you.

    • bloggista on February 3, 2009 at 11:06 pm

Uu ang bilis eh. Cgurado nachambahan nya vulnerable site ko. Very naughty. I encountered a few times when the sites I visited (even big blogs) suddenly took me to the install page. If i was naughty, I could have done the same. But I decided I am going to be a good person na :-)

  7. Ambo on February 4, 2009 at 11:05 pm

Kaya pala the other day nagulat ako at iba ang format ng site mo. Mobile edition pala. My blog site is also viewed via wap pero last year ko pa nagawa. Anyways, mukhang magiging busy ka these days. I hope maayos mo na Bro!

    • bloggista on February 6, 2009 at 6:34 pm

ganun ba bro. Hopefully ngayon, hindi mobile version nakikita mo hehe, bec the other week ganun lagi. But looks like the mobileplugin that I am using works great, esp with iPhone :-)

  8. elmot on February 5, 2009 at 5:59 pm

the mobile is a good idea…you really never ceases to put up new ideas for your blog and for readers to easily connect with you.

kudos bro. hope to see that feature soon to maybe officially kick off your anniversary?

    • bloggista on February 6, 2009 at 6:38 pm

Hey thanks bro for the kind words. Went to check your site as well, and its looking good. More power!

      • elmot on February 8, 2009 at 6:57 pm

hmmm parng gsto ko din integrate sa isang site q yan kso ang prob matipid ata pinoy sa pag gamit ng mobile net hehe

    • bloggista on February 6, 2009 at 6:43 pm

Hey ran, thanks for dropping by. YOu’re one busy fellow I saw your sites great concepts there.

Dahil mahal mag charge ang Globe (at least mejo ok ang Smart), mobile users are constrained from using their phones to browse the internet.

Sana ang SUN maglabas din ng unlimited mobile browsing, lipat agad ako. :-)

  10. johnlazy on February 6, 2009 at 8:07 pm

    Happy anniversary Sir! Take care!

  11. ph_investor on February 8, 2009 at 6:55 am

Wow, you’re the man bloggista, its only your first anniversary yet you’ve accomplished so much, we really look up to you, congrats! I also read in PinoyMoneyTalk that you are listed in the top 50 Philippine blogs for Q4 2008, astig and congrats ulit! Sorry to hear that you got hacked during that 60 seconds of vulnerability, good thing you got through it, why do some people have to do those stuff?!?! By the way, yung plans ko to move to wordpress, postponed at the moment, was able to find a blogger template that will do for now, pero of course if I do decide to move to wordpress in the future, will let you know. Thanks and I wish you more success!

    • bloggista on February 11, 2009 at 4:10 am

Hey bro! Thanks for the info – just checked out PMT – andun nga. Hehehe. The Ads theme is really functional bro, so its alright if you’re blogging in blogger – however, when you’re ready to build your own brand – I will be more than happy to help out if you want to move to wordpress.

Thanks for the kind and encouraging words – blogging is fun so we better watch out for those dudes who don’t want to see other people happy. Hehe.

I think I wouldn’t upgrade to version 2.7 as literally I don’t have any knowledge in programming. I am using version 2.6.3 as of now. Anyway, you’ve done a good job with those updates. Kudos to you Mr. Bloggista! :)

    • bloggista on February 11, 2009 at 4:15 am

Hi bro – I have been using the WordPress automatic plugin to upgrade my other blogs to WP2.7 and it seems working fine – so far, did not encounter any problem. Maybe you should try that as well.

But do make sure to back-up your WordPress before doing any upgrade – the backup process is also included in the plugin.

  13. archondigital on February 9, 2009 at 2:51 pm

asteeg yung mobile edition, I tried it sa Sony P990i kaso lakas umubos ng battery wifi sa mobile ko

tagal ko na di nakihalubilo sobrang busy ng bagong buhay OFW
    hirap pala mag pioneer pre

    • bloggista on February 11, 2009 at 4:20 am

Hehe, lumabas ba yung mobile edition bro? Na miss kana namin ah! Musta naman jan sa Dubai – balita ko marami daw buhangin jan. Hehe

Totoo pre, hirap talaga mag umpisa ng business. Dami challenges… at least your boss is also visionary – you wont have any problem selling new ideas… Pero mga dalawang taon mula ngayon, pde naman tayo mag usap uli. Hehe. Take care bro!

  14. loy on February 12, 2009 at 3:12 pm

Congratulations, man! And maybe Automattic should hire you to be part of their anti-hacking team. haha!

I have not yet upgraded to WP 2.7 because the whole upgrade process is a pain in the ass. And of course, I’m afraid of messing up the database. :-)
