Kidneys For Sale

Kidney For SaleBetter than make money blogs and affiliate marketing? This post is not the usual make money article, but a call to action for concerned individuals and authorities about the recent “organ trading” in the country.

There is something alarming (and sickening) news lately about certain people giving out their kidneys for a sum of USD125,000.00. What’s more sickening is that the donor himself only gets Php125,000.00 (about USD2,800.00) while the huge chunk goes to the middlemen, the surgeons and the hospitals (and probably some government officials).

More and more foreign nationals are coming to the Philippines in the hopes that they get the needed organ transplant as more and more Filipinos, mostly poor and in need of money, are lured to exchange their body organs for some cash.

There are also quiet a good number of surgeons and hospitals that can successfully perform kidney transplant, at a cheaper price compared to other countries, thus making the Philippines an ideal place for such operations.

Philippine Laws says it is illegal to solicit organ donation by paying the donor. It is also illegal to be involved in the trading and sell of human body organs, unless for “humanitarian” reasons.

The reason behind is simply to avoid taking advantage of people who are in dire need thus driving them to sell their body organs like kidney for money. Its basically like the sex trade or prostitution.

The Government should treat this problem as very critical. And doctors and people who are involved in this trade should be severely punished as this may lead to abuse. The consequences can be scary and worst.

Hope we can call the attention of the Government to take action on this with much urgency to protect every citizen’s rights and protect helpless Filipinos from abuse.

just woke up this morning. kakabasa ko lang ng emails about my family’s financial problem issues in pnas. my mother just had a kidney problem here in canada. fortunately, almost free ang hospitalization dito, can’t imagine how much it cost in pnas, might even million pesos and now, just read this post.

madaming nang na fake sa pag aabroad and now that its an old business, convincing poor people to sell kidneys is a good business for these people.

oh wow. this is very alarming. before you know it, 80% of the population will have just one kidney…but surprisingly wealthy.

@icy, yep, this is another way for people without conscience to take advantage to those people in need.

@Dyosa, with only 84 families holding 80% of this country’s wealth ( The Great Disparity ), that’s probably a lot more people to take advantage with. But imagine how one would go on living with only one kidney. I’m sure there are health trade-off to some extent.

i guess if someone here auctions off his kidney, there will be plenty of takers.

an ex-boss of mine donated his kidney to his brother. though his brother died years later, the donor is 100% healthy even today.

I guess the amount they gave to donors is unreasonable and the middlemen are making a killing out of it.

[basically like the sex trade or prostitution.]

Not exactly. Sex trade or prostitution is based on a rental per use basis while in the case of a kidney sale, it is a one time deal since each person only have 2 kidneys, and 1 is required for basic survival.

[Do you think as bloggers we can do something about it?]

Not much I think. Folks who are desperate are willing to do anything for money, there is little we can do to stop them. -_-

It’s so sad to know that there are some person who went on selling their kidneys just to survive. Yeah, they may survive temporarily by the worth of thei kidneys but living on one kidney alone can make it more vulnerable to diseases.

Our kidneys serve as filters to our body waste!

    It should not be sold!

Kapit sa patalim bro – thus the popular expression goes. Its reflective of what our government have done to alleviate the conditions of the poor – but nothing… our politicians are spending people’s money on protests, cha-cha, senate investigations – but not on food production, agri programs, farm to market quality roads, accessible health services… Sigh.
