Obama Wins Historic US Election

us elections 250x198 Obama Wins Historic US ElectionIn less than 24 hours, the US Presidential Election has been decided in favor of Barack Obama. Even though some US States are still counting votes, John McCain already conceded as Obama already gathered 338 Electoral Votes, more than the 270 Electoral Votes needed to win the US Presidency.

Whats amazing with the US Presidential Election is that, even if you lose in the Popularity Votes, but reach 270 Electoral Votes, you still become the most powerful man in America, perhaps the World. This election however, Obama still won in the Popularity Voting with just a few margin of less than 5% over McCain’s. Latest official tally from Yahoo, based on the results provided by AP and several networks shows that Obama gathered 55,396,945 votes, or a total of 52% (equivalent to 338 electoral votes) and McCain got 50,660,787 votes, or a total of 47% (equivalent to only 141 electoral votes).

If compared to the Presidential Elections in the Philippines, that less 5 million vote difference will surely trigger widespread protests and charges of cheating on both camps – perhaps accusing a Presidential candidate to have done a Garci strategy.

I have not seen any single losing candidate in the Philippines who graciously conceded – and even encourage people to support the winning candidate.

Hopefully, the 2010 Presidential Elections will be something we Filipinos should be proud of. And I believe we can do our little share. It is worth to mention that the just concluded US Presidential Elections is historic in every way – the quality of the Candidates, the role of Media and latest technologies in informing the people of the Issues, and yes, Blogging and the Bloggers in creating awareness among the electorate – and even outsiders.

We can do the same here in the Philippines. There is always hope. We must ensure we vote the right person. Create awareness of making the right choices. Do our litte share of informing people on the issues to be addressed by each candidate. If we put monkeys in the Government, certainly, we become a truly Banana Republic.

Yeah, it’s really heart-warming to know that McCain conceded in the election. It’s a far cry from our country wherein no politicians ever admitted defeat.

As for Obama, I guess he was voted because a lot of Americans would like to see changes and from the looks of it, Barrack seems to be a visionary man. I am really happy for the Americans as it seems that the changes they are longing for is finally coming near.

The Philippine Elections? To tell you honestly, I am not yet looking forward to the 2010 elections as there seems to be none noteworthy. In addition, a Filipino-version of Barrack Obama is impossible to have here in our politics wherein padrino system, military connections, political dynasty and power-tripping exists.

    Just thinking aloud here… :(

Well, they have this thing called the electoral college heheh.

I hope there would be no election come 2010. I hope Gloria will be in power forever and ever. She’s a tough one and we don’t need anybody like Manny, Mar and even Lacson to run this trash country of ours.

Yes, I agree. The recent election was truly a very historical one. But I really like McCain did, a true gentleman indeed.

Come to think of it, did any Philippine losing presidential candidate even did that? Cheating, cheating and cheating. So who’s not doing that, anyway? Buying a pirated DVD/CD is cheating, isn’t it?

I just hope we all talk to the man in the mirror and ask ourselves what have we done to help our country, and answer it with all honesty.

    Sorry, bloggista…na-carried away ako e…lol!

    Thanks!

daz rights!!! Pennsylvania, where I live made the big difference ki Obama. what’s interesting was that, halos di pa nag-co-close ang polls in 100%, the networks handed it to Obama – as in ni wala pang bilangan, they all based it on exit polling. mantak mo yun?! will that ever happen in Pinas? sasabihin nun, niluto hahah

i’m really excited with the coming 2010 presidential elections. me pagbabago kaya? let’s see and am sure putok ang blogosphenoy nito hehehe

@Metz – Empty Streets: I will not be a good president. I will be a dictator – I will take out Pork barrel and allocate it to increase govt employee salaries. Every new policeman or teacher each will receive a monthly salary of Php32,000.00. All crooks will be sent to jail. I will control transport – the State will own all buses – will give drivers regular monthly salaries. I will require Ateneo and La Salle to admit 20percent of their student population deserving students from public schools.

I will take back Petron and control the Oil industry. I will penalize Telecoms industries for overcharging Clients. Hehehe…

  25. Metz - Empty Streets on November 7, 2008 at 4:32 pm

hahaha see me and snow are going to back you up and as for a dictator i think we could need a little more dictating anyways hehehe and your ideas sound great. I would wnat to work for the government if that would happen heheh :)

    Bro,

The difference is actually very small. Kung dito sa tin yan eh katakot-takot na gulo na ang ganyang kaliit ng diperensya sa boto (in percentage).
