Pacquiao vs De La Hoya: Entertainment Boxing Dream Match?

pacquiao vs delahoya pix 250x188 Pacquiao vs De La Hoya: Entertainment Boxing Dream Match? We all love watching those modern gladiators throwing a kick to the face, or delivering a “stoner” finisher to their opponents. People wail at the sight of that big giant scary-looking man from the grave giving the dreaded “tombstone” to a helpless victim whose muscle-chiseled body is being thrown like a wasp on the floor.

Who can forget the famous rivalry of Bret “the Hitman” Hart versus Shawn “The Heartbreak Kid” Michaels and Triple H, or the animosity between “Stone Cold” Steve Austin and The Rock. After all, this was entertainment wrestling, despite of its drama and scripted fights, people love it. Everywhere entertainment wrestling goes, men, women and children always fill the whole fight arena.

Are we seeing a brand new sports entertainment with the upcoming fight between Manny “the Pacman” Pacquiao against Oscar ‘the Pretty Boy” De La Hoya? Several people, including yours truly doubt a great boxing fight will gonna happen on December 5, 2008 in Las Vegas, USA. With the money at stake, talking about millions of dollars, plus shares in pay-per-view and other exclusive fight broadcast rights and private sponsorships – the money each fighter will get is a lot!

The Non-Title fight of Pacquiao and De La Hoya has all the makings of a great sports entertainment – not a great fight to my opinion. Manny Pacquiao, who is fighting against Oscar De La Hoya at 147lbs is the underdog this time, with bigger odds in favor of De La Hoya, who promised a good fight as it will be his last fight prior to his retirement in boxing.

These questions are lurking in many people’s minds – De La Hoya is at the sunset of his career, and to exit in the pages of a fruitful boxing career which made him great and famous and rich, will he allow a loss to Manny Pacquiao?

Manny, on the other hand, is in his prime. Fighting at 147lbs from his current division of 135lbs is already a big handicap. Will he allow receiving those power punches from De La Hoya and risks being beaten so badly which might affect his ability to fight in his succeeding matches?

Seemed to be a great fight if you look at the circumstances…. but on the other hand, is also a great making of an entertainment fight just like the way they do in Entertainment Wrestling. Will there be a “real boxing fight” on December 5?

Entertainment Boxing – anyone? If I’m getting 15 million dollars fighting Pacquiao or De La Hoya,  I’ll be on that ring too, and it will surely be an entertaining one (or a disgusting fight you’d rather watch a Mr. Bean movie).

I have read a lot of posts about this bout, and have voiced out my side many times. But it is my pleasure to jot it down again here.

Anyway, I think this will be serious fight for Manny and pure entertainment for Oscar…malalim ba? Here is the explanation.

Both fighters are serious in their fights but let’s admit it, Oscar is on his way home while Manny is still in his prime. Oscar can easily throw his white towel without losing his honor. He has made himself as a big name in the history.

On the other hand, Manny is always a hungry fighter but can entertain the crowd as well. He’s also a good actor inside the ring, have you noticed that? He has mastered the art of boxing entertainment. In fact, his fans love him for that.

So, how’s going to win? Read my lips, my friend…It’s the high profile gamblers! If you don’t believe me, ask ERAP and I am very sure he knows one…lol!

PS. Sorry, di ako nag-vote kasi wala yung choice ko e…

I want Manny (being a Filipino) to win but I don’t think he can make it this time.. just like what Sugar Leonard said it would be a short fight for Oscar.. But we may never know, Manny is known for his surprises.. But honestly, for me, Oscar will win this fight..

@Angel Cuala: Yeah, the big winners for this match are the bettors. LOL, so who’s your bet? :-)

@Joliber Mapiles: Will luck be on Manny’s side this time? Pardon for the word “luck” because he seemed to have blessed with it in his previous fights. :-(

@Metz – Empty Streets: Hehe, De La Hoya, if he was a Filipino, he must be a matinee idol actor by now paired with Ara Mina. :-)
