The 10 Best Web 2.0 applications of 2008
Webware revealed in its Webware100 website the Top 10 Best Web 2.0 applications, which garnered 88% of 1.9 million votes cast from its readers and internet users who voted on the Top 100 Web 2.0 applications.
The top 10 Web 2.0 Applications are as follows:
As expected, popular web 2.0 applications Facebook, Firefox, Google, iTunes, MySpace, and YouTube were top favorites. The other four were DevianArt (popular to the art community), Friendster, Gaia Online (a social networking site for teenagers) and Maxthon (a browser that I only knew after reading the article). Surprisingly, Maxthon in its website has a download counter and as of writing, it already have 143, 816, 666 downloads.
What is a Web 2.0 application?
“Web 2.0 is a trend in the use of World Wide Web technology and web design that aims to facilitate creativity, information sharing, and, most notably, collaboration among users. The Top 100 Web 2.0 applications were grouped into 10 categories with 10 winners in each application category. The application categories are Audio, Browsing & Tools, Commerce, Communication, Productivity, Publishing, Search, Social, Utility and Video.

It also noteworthy to mention that WordPress also won in the Publishing Category, together with Blogger and Drupal – 3 of the most popular blog platforms. Disappointment is Digg, a social networking site that did not make it to the top 100.
