Way back in May, 2008 I got the privilege to be one of a limited number of Google Adsense Publishers that were given the chance to test drive Google Ad Manager. I must say its a great way to publish and manage your Ads if you have a network of websites - and at the same time have the flexibility of displaying Google-served ads from your Google Adsense account.

Today, Google announced in its AdSense Blog that the Google Ad Manager service is now available for everyone - with Google Adsense accounts that is. Several new features were also added. A snippet from the Adsense Blog announcement:

  • Interface available in 32 languages: Do you prefer to work in Turkish or Vietnamese or Hungarian? Now you can! Ad Manager supports international currencies, too.
  • Ad network management: Easily manage your third-party ad networks in Ad Manager to automatically maximize your network driven revenue.
  • Automatic macro insertion: Save time and avoid tagging errors since Ad Manager now automatically detects and inserts macros from most popular 3rd party vendors.
  • Creative preview on live site: Preview the look and feel of ads on your live site to ensure ads look as expected before you start the campaign.
  • Day and Time Targeting: Don’t want your orders to run on weekends? No problem. With day and time targeting, you can set any new line items you create to run only during specific hours or days, or as little as 15 minutes per week. Use day and time targeting in addition to geography, bandwidth, browser, user language, operating system, domain and custom targeting.

Being a fan of open source systems and of course, of the great and mighty Google, I would certainly use everything that Google offers for free - search engines, toolbars, website contents, gadgets, adsense, feed managers, and lately, its new web browser Chrome.

However, a CNET article the other day made me think twice about just installing anything and not reading through the End Users License Agreement or EULA. I must admit, I rarely read the EULA when installing softwares on my PC. How many people are actually reading the EULA’s of softwares they were installing? Most people just click on the I Accept the End User Agreement tickbox or button and voila, install the software as recommended. I rarely choose the CUSTOM Install option as well as it might complicate my life even more.

The new Chrome browser from Google had this in its EULA:

“The software which you use may automatically download and install updates from time to time from Google. These updates are designed to improve, enhance and further develop the services and may take the form of bug fixes, enhanced functions, new software modules and completely new versions. You agree to receive such updates (and permit Google to deliver these to you) as part of your use of the services.”

Problem with this? Well since I trust Google so much I find it a great extra service that they fix and improve my browsing experience without me even looking the fixes and updates myself. So this one is okay. But how about those other softwares you installed? Could you trust its Developers to give you software updates without thinking about stuffs like malware, spyware and other programs and add-on that are designed to compromise data, privacy and security?

Google 1t!Still on Google. The official Google Blog announced an eye-popping, mind-boggling milestone recently that left their search engineers in awe - they have indexed a trillion unique URL’s on the world wide web at once!

Well they explained that they were not indexing all those trillion pages, as some of them are “duplicates” but still, the unique links they processed reach a trillion mark even after removing those duplicates. And in fact, its even more - they do not intend to count all, but only those links that are relevant to every search made on Google.

And by how many webpages the internet is growing everyday? Google estimates it to several billion pages a day! So its look like the world wide web is going to be a universe in itself for a few years from now.

Google Page Rank Update in Progress

Google Page Rank UpdateJuly 26, 2008 (Manila Time).

Although this have not been verified yet, but there seems to be some Page Rank Update in progress today. My 3-month old Wordpress-powered Free blog site, Bloggista.net, suddenly displayed a page rank of 1. I went over PRChecker.info to verify and indeed it has a Page Rank of 1 from N/A. You can check the Page Rank of any website using the Page Rank (PR) Checker below:

Further checking of several new sites of my blog friends, they got some changes too. So perhaps the much anticipated Google Page Rank update is imminent and for sure it will bring joy to some, heartbreak to others.

Google StickerThis has been posted at the Google AdSense blog (Inside AdSense: Stick ‘em up!) for quite sometime, but I wonder if you guys already have your “free” Google AdSense stickers.

Well its not totally free as you have to send a “self-addressed, stamped envelope with enough postage to return a 1 oz. of sticker - limited only to one or two stickers per AdSense publisher.

In case you haven’t done so, just send the envelope with an optional “love letter” or note to:

I presume there are still sticker inventories available, as the AdSense Team haven’t Read the rest of this entry »
